Beer lovers take note: New breweries coming

More breweries for local beer industry

There will soon be a 12-pack of breweries in town.

Seven breweries both big and small are set to open or expand in the near future in the Windsor area.

The list includes Riverside Brewery Co. on Edna Street, Sandwich Brewing Co. next to Rock Bottom in Olde Sandwich Towne, and the Downtown Pizza & Beer Co., in the former Chanoso’s space on Ouellette Avenue.

Kingsville Brewery and GL Heritage Brewing Co. are set to open in Amherstburg, while the Grove Brew House is set to open in Kingsville.

Motor Craft Ales, currently operating out of Motor Burger on Erie Street, will move to a rehabilitated building in Ford City after extensive construction work.

Those new breweries will join the already operating Walkerville Brewery, Craft Heads Brewing Company, Brew on University Avenue East, Frank Brewing Co. in Tecumseh and Banded Goose Brewing Co. in Kingsville.

Mark Boscariol, co-owner of the new Downtown Pizza & Beer Co., which is opening in September, says he is looking forward to business in the prime downtown area. He chose to open up the new brewery as a way to showcase his love of beer.

He also co-owns The Willistead in Walkerville, and SnackBar-B- Q on Chatham Street East.

The brewery will not only carry two exclusive beers, but will also feature 12 local brews the owners feel represent brands that give back to the Windsor Essex community at large.

“Some of the other breweries just seem to give back. Crafts Heads (Brewing Company) is brewing dandelion beer for the cancer society, for example. Those are things that we’re looking for,” Boscariol said.

“Making the world better through craft beer,” he added.

Adriano Ciotoli of WindsorEats says he is happy to hear the new breweries are coming to town.

“I think it’s fantastic. For me, it’s another piece of the puzzle for the region from a culinary tourism standpoint,” he says.

The new breweries will add to beer lovers’ appreciation of Windsor — whether it be more drinks at the craft beer festival, or more stops on the craft beer tour, Ciotoli said.

“It just gives people another reason to decide to come to Windsor Essex,” he added.

“We’re really fortunate. It becomes a destination. The more breweries that are there for beer lovers to come and visit, the better.”
