Tecumseh Corn Festival to offer some new twists

- DAVE WADDELL dwaddell@postmedia.com

There’ll be a few new wrinkles at this summer’s 42nd annual Tecumseh Corn Festival.

The popular late-summer tradition, which this year runs from Aug. 24-27 at the town’s Lacasse Park, will see Friday designated as country music night. There will also be a corn festival app released in the coming weeks.

“We’re working on a few other things,” festival chairman David Lozinsky said Tuesday as several town officials gathered at Lacasse Park for an update. “We’ll have some new entertainment.

“We’ll have more to say on that in the next few weeks.”

Lots of delicious hot-buttered corn is still on the menu.

Bonduelle Canada remains the title sponsor of the Tecumseh Corn Festival, retained its place on 2017’s list of top 100 festivals in Ontario. The Carter Midway and the Miss Tecumseh Pageant are also among the returning attractions.

The deadline for entering the pageant is June 5.

Lozinsky acknowledged there’s been some confusion for local residents over some area festivals, such as the Shores of Erie Wine Festival, which have either ceased operations or are scaling back.

“We just wanted people to know we’ll be back stronger than ever with the support of the town and our sponsors,” Lozinsky said.

“What happened with the Shores of Erie continues to reverberate.”

Lozinsky added the festival is still looking for more sponsors and volunteers.
