The Villanova Wildcats scored on a penalty in the first overtime and that was the difference in a 1-0 win over the St. Anne Saints in the WECSSAA girls’ AAA soccer final on Thursday at McHugh Park.

The two teams were scoreless through regulation, but the Wildcats were awarded a penalty when a St. Anne defender deliberately played a ball with her hand to prevent it going over the goal-line.

Jalyn Cirino connected on the penalty to put the Wildcats up 1-0 against the defending champion Saints. The penalty also resulted in a red card to the Saints defender and St. Anne played down a player the rest of the way and could not produce a goal against Wildcats keeper Alessandra Schemri.

RIVERSIDE 2 ST. JOSEPH 1

The Riverside Rebels scored a pair of goals on penalty kicks in the second half to rally for a 2-1 win over the St. Joseph Lasers in the WECSSAA boys’ AA soccer final at Academie Ste. Cecile.
