DIY project: Chalk it up to spring decor fever

Get inspired by Chalk Paint palette and bring a splash of colour home

- S. EVELYN CIMESA

Now that we’ve fully embraced spring, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about bringing more colour into your home.

One of the easiest and most cost-efficient methods of incorporating more colour is to refresh and repaint current furniture using Chalk Paint decorative paint by Annie Sloan. Coveted by both DIYers and professional interior designers across the world, Annie Sloan’s iconic brand of paint can adhere to almost any surface. You don’t have to prep or prime to create a beautiful, velvety finish!

The sunny and bright painted dining room, pictured below, was brought to life with a range of colours from the Annie Sloan palette. It features all of the warmth and happiness associated with spring, without the rain. The space hinges on a strong theme of natural greens and blues, featuring pastel accents, and invites both homeowners and guests alike indoors and surrounds them with cheerful spring colours.

The rustic dining table was given a classic French look. The table’s legs were painted in Antibes Green and finished off with a healthy amount of Black Chalk Paint Wax. The table top, on the other hand, was painted using a technique to reveal the grain in the wood: A wash was created by diluting Old White with water, which was then sealed with Clear Chalk Paint Wax. To tie it all together, the floor is painted in Chalk Paint in Graphite and finished with Annie Sloan Lacquer.

If you’re looking for a small project that can be completed in a morning, consider refinishing a wooden dining chair — all it requires is one small project pot of Chalk Paint and wax. With more than 35 decorative and historic colours, there are endless possibilities for your next DIY project. To find your local retailer, visit anniesloan.com.
