The two-year-old boy who was found floating in a backyard pool in Tecumseh last week has died.

OPP said their investigation into the matter has concluded.

Emergency responders were called to a home in the 500 block of Dresden Place on May 30 around 7:30 p.m.

The non-responsive toddler was rushed to Windsor Regional Hospital under police escort.

He was then transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition.

Owen Michael McLeod of Tecumseh died in his parents’ arms on Sunday — just six days before what would have been his third birthday.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the entire community, most especially the doctors, nurses, health care professionals and emergency responders,” said the McLeod family in a public statement.

“Despite this incredible loss, we take comfort in knowing that Owen was able to give the gift of life to other children. We encourage everyone to become an organ donor.”

Arrangements for Owen have been made with the east Windsor location of Families First Funeral Home (1065 Lauzon Rd.).

Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A funeral mass will take place Thursday at noon at Ste. Anne Parish in Tecumseh (12233 Tecumseh Rd. E.), with cremation to follow.

Owen is survived by his parents, Matthew and Meghan McLeod, his little brother Derek, four grandparents, two great-grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and four cousins.

The McLeod family extends special thanks to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Essex County OPP, the Tecumseh fire department, Windsor police, Windsor Regional Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, the PANDA One intensive care transport team, and Gift of Life Michigan.

The family asks that any donations to Owen be made instead to Ronald McDonald House Windsor.
