Windsor shows off diversity with Carrousel of the Nations

Whether you’re into Polish pride, Filipino fun, Caribbean carousing, or Greek goodies — There’s a lot to enjoy from Windsor’s many cultural groups over the next two weekends, thanks to Carrousel of the Nations 2017.

The long-running annual event promoted by the Multicultu­ral Council of Windsor and Essex County takes place across the city June 16 to 18 and June 23 to 25.

The first weekend features 11 ethnic villages; the second has nine.

Today and Sunday, members of the public who want to explore other cultures — or just want to party — can visit the Bavarian, Caribbean, Filipino, Greek, Hungarian, Macedonian, Polish, Romanian, Scottish, Serbian Grachanica, and Slovak locations.

The second weekend includes the Chinese, German, Italian, Serbian St. Dimitrije, and Ukrainian locations.

Perhaps you want to take in some Tatry folk dancing — or do some dancing of your own — at the Polish Village, which opened at 7 p.m. Friday at 1275 Langlois Ave.

Maybe you want to savour some pancit bihon guisado — a kind of Pinoy stir-fry — at the Filipino Village, opening 10 a.m. Saturday at 435 Northwood Dr.

Try the zelnik pastries at the Macedonian Village, which opened at 6 p.m. Friday at 5225 Howard Ave.

Pork souvlaki? Say “opa” at the Greek Village, 65 Ellis St. E.

Highland dancers? Have a hoot at the Scottish Village, 1340 Tecumseh Rd. E.

Soca and reggae beats? Get irie at the Caribbean Village, 2410 Central Ave.
