BIDDING TO BUILD THE BRIDGE
Legacy Link Partners:
Heading this group is SNC Lavalin, a century-old conglomerate which lists Highway 407 and the James Bay Project among its Ontario projects. Vinci Concessions, a Frenchbased entity, is also part of the team. The company has a history of partnering with governments around the world on airport, railway and road infrastructure projects, including the current $1.9-billion Regina Bypass Project. American Bridge Company has been involved in several rehabilitation and construction projects across the United States, including the current Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing, Oakland/San Francisco Bay Bridge, George Washington Bridge and Walt Whitman Bridge over the Delaware River. Windsorbased Amico Infrastructure is part of this consortium.
Bridging North America:
Some of the same companies involved in building the $1.4-billion Herb Gray Parkway are part of this group. Many of them are based in Spain. They include ACS Infrastructure Canada, Fluor Canada and Dragados Canada. DBI Services, which handles maintenance and repairs of the parkway, is also part of this group. Not part of this team are Spanish company Tierra Armada and partner Freyssinet Group of France, which were at the centre of the controversy over 320 faulty girders on the parkway project that had to be replaced.
CanAm Gateway:
This group is led by well-known Canada-based construction company EllisDon Corp. and major global player Bechtel Canada. EllisDon has been involved in road and other infrastructure projects across Canada. Locally, it was a lead company in the construction of the $80-million Windsor International Aquatic Centre. Bechtel is involved in projects around the world, many of them energy or oil related. It was recently involved in construction of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge near Seattle.
