Sun Parlour Cabs get two licence suspensions

- JULIE KOTSIS jkotsis@postmedia.com

Leamington’s Sun Parlour Cabs owner Jack Trefry has been hit with two eight-hour licence suspensions for parking his cab on municipal property, contrary to the town’s bylaw.

He will not be able to run any of his seven taxis on Sept. 11 from 3 to 11 p.m. and Sept. 18 from 3 to 11 p.m.

“I feel we’re being discriminated against very badly,” Trefry said.

“I parked out in front of my office at eight o’clock in the morning to unload some stuff, supplies to my office,” he said, adding that during that time an employee stopped there to pick up something from him. “They said I broke the bylaw.”

The town’s bylaw restricts cabs from parking on any municipal property.

“I don’t understand what the purpose of that is. You can’t park anywhere?” Trefry said. “I don’t understand where this is all going to. It’s ridiculous.”

Trefry’s 30-year-old business is located in the downtown area. He said he has parking for his cabs but it’s four blocks from his office.

“This town sucks,” he said. “After 30 years of business it doesn’t mean anything. That’s the bottom line.”

Two other cab companies — Leamington Taxi and Leamington Yellow Taxi — were given one eighthour licence suspension each for not meeting a deadline to provide a plan for parking for cabs and employees.
