LaSalle seeks $30K from county for sidewalk review
LaSalle is seeking $30,000 from the county to help pay for a review of its active transportation network.
Councillors agreed Tuesday to ask for half of the estimated $60,000 cost of the project, known as the LaSalle Age-Friendly Active Transportation Action Plan.
The county has a costsharing plan called the County Wide Active Transportation System municipal partnership program and there is $100,000 available to municipalities in 2018.
Larry Silani, director of development and strategic initiatives, said in a report to council the town will look for gaps in existing infrastructure and determine needs going forward.
Silani said the review is also an opportunity to see if the town’s active transportation network of off-road, in-boulevard and off-road paths and sidewalks can be better linked within the town and to the network connecting the future Gordie Howe International Bridge, Herb Gray Parkway and the City of Windsor.
It will also estimate costs for any improvements and outline opportunities for funding from the provincial and federal governments, as well as determine priority actions for the next five years.
Silani said it’s expected the review will be completed in 2018, along with a broader transportation master plan.
