WINES OF THE WEEK
Viña Cono Sur 2016 Bicicleta Viognier Colchagua Valley, Chile ★★★★ out of 4 ON $11 (064287)
Consistently one of the best values at the LCBO, Cono Sur’s Viognier is a great introduction to an exotic and fragrant white wine. Viognier typically offers peach, apricot and floral aromas and flavours, which yields an aromatic and fruity white wine with crowd-pleasing capabilities. This current vintage packs more aromatic charge than usual, which makes it truly appealing.
João Portugal Ramos 2016 Loios Red Alentejo, Portugal ★★ ★ ★ out of 4 ON $9 (089912)
Here’s a bargain-priced fruity red wine that’s easygoing and really enjoyable. Made in the typical style for the Alentejo region in southern Portugal, it’s a blend of Aragones (Tempranillo), Trincadeira and Castelao without any influence of oak barrels. The result is a nicely balanced red with a smooth texture that’s a great candidate for entertaining around the barbecue.
