Lancers settle for pair of scoreless ties

The University of Windsor Lancers women’s soccer team played to a pair of scoreless draws on the weekend while the men’s team split a pair of games.

The women finished 0-0 against the Brock Badgerson Sunday at Alumni Field after playing to a 0-0 tie on Saturday against the McMaster Marauders.

Kristina Brooks got both shutouts as the Lancers now sit 3-2-6 on the season and in fourth place in the West Division.

The men’s team rebounded with a 4-1 win over Brock on Sunday after falling 3-2 to McMaster at home on Saturday.

Celso Carapau scored twice for Windsor on Sunday with Tanner Page and Kyle Ruggaber getting single goals as the Lancers improved to 4-6-1 on the season.

On Saturday, rookies Dylan Satto and Sid Pandey each scored once against McMaster.

STILL WINLESS

The University of Windsor Lancers’ football team is still looking for its first OUA win of the season after a 39-14 loss on the road Saturday to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Ottawa (4-1) built a 30-0 lead in the second quarter before the Lancers (0-5) could find the end zone.

Marvin Gaynor, who rushed for 97 yards on 16 carries, scored Windsor’s first touchdown on a two-yard run. Marcus Kentner, who rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries, scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter. Clark Green converted both scores.

Defensivel­y, Daniel Metcalfe had 13 tackles for the Lancers while Dan Stirling had six tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

JUNIOR C HOCKEY

The Amherstbur­g Admirals scored twice in the third period, but ended up falling 6-5 to the Blenheim Blades on Saturday in Bill Stobbs Division play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Cory Burns scored three goals for the Admirals (1-1-0-1) while Kadin Ritchie and Austin Jennings added single goals against the Blades (3-0-0-0).

Cole Butler scored both goals for the Wheatley Sharks in a 5-2 loss to the Mooretown Flags on Saturday. Goalie Daniel Tonietto made 45 saves for the Sharks (0-2-0-1) against the Flags (3-0-0-0).

ST. CLAIR BASEBALL

The St. Clair College Saints split an OCAA baseball doublehead­er in London against the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday.

St. Clair let a one-run lead slip away in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 3-2 loss in the opener, but rebounded for a 13-0 mercy win in the second game.

In the opener, Carson Burke had a pair of hits for the Saints while Matt Bondy drove in both runs. Saints starter Kyle Breitner suffered his first loss in five years with St. Clair.

In the second game, Taylor Pappin got the pitching win while Bondy had three singles and drove in five runs. Burke and Brendon Renaud added three hits each for the Saints (8-2) against Fanshawe (5-5).

ST. CLAIR SOFTBALL

The St. Clair College Saints’ softball team split a pair of weekend OCAA doublehead­ers.

The Saints took Sunday’s opener against Conestoga 9-1, but fell in the second game 2-0.

On Saturday, St. Clair lost the first game of a doublehead­er with Seneca by a 6-5 count, but rebounded for a 5-0 win in the second game.

On Sunday, St. Clair scored five runs in the third inning to take control of the opener. Pitcher Sara Stiller won her fifth game of the year and Sarah Bondy had three hits and drove in three runs.

Bondy had two of St. Clair’s six hits in the second game.

On Saturday, Allison Telfer had two hits and drove in three runs in the opening loss. Stiller allowed just one hit in the second game with Madisyn Clark leading the way offensivel­y with three hits.

ST. CLAIR SOCCER

The St. Clair College Saints women’s soccer team dropped its first game of the OCAA season while the men scored a victory.

Korede Adepitan scored six goals, including four in the first half, to lead the men’s team to a 9-1 win over the Mohawk Mountainee­rs (1-4). Nathaniel Walters added two goals for the Saints (3-1) and Chris Spadafora had the other goal.

The women’s team allowed the opposition to build a three-goal lead in the first half and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Mountainee­rs. Jaclyn French and Ryan Morneau for St. Clair (3-1) in the second half, but the Saints could not produce the equalizer against Mohawk (4-1).
