Two Windsor men are facing charges after a replica handgun was waved around in an altercation at a bar in Sarnia.

The incident happened during the early morning hours of last Saturday at an establishment in the 100 block of Front Street in Sarnia. The two Windsor men were allegedly causing a disturbance and fighting with other customers.

According to witnesses, the men left the business, but returned 15 minutes later and confronted an employee of the bar.

During the confrontation, one of the Windsor men allegedly pulled up his shirt to reveal what appeared to be a black semi-automatic pistol in his waistband.

The man then allegedly drew the firearm and waved it in the air, yelling at the employee and goading him to physically fight with the other Windsor man.

Security guards employed by the bar came to aid of their fellow staff member. There was a struggle with the two suspects before Sarnia police were called around 1:30 a.m.

Officers arrived and found the suspect’s pistol was a BB gun, made to closely resemble a .45-calibre Colt 1911 handgun.

Sarnia police described the replica firearm in a statement as “extremely realistic,” and said it was fortunate that no one was hurt in this incident.

“When presented with a situation like this, it is very difficult to tell whether it is a real firearm or a replica fire(arm) and thus police will treat it as real gun until otherwise proven that it is not,” Sarnia police warned.

Zuhair Francis Gorges, 42, of Windsor was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and two counts of breaching probation. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Armando Lako, 27, of Windsor was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance and breach of an undertaking. He’s been released on further conditions.
