Police credit ‘tremendous’ tips for arrest of robberies suspect

A 55-year-old Windsor man is facing several charges in connection with a robbery spree on Sunday and Monday that saw six locations targeted.

All the incidents occurred in the space of about four hours, from late Sunday to early Monday.

Patrol officers were first called to a convenienc­e store in the 900 block of Ouellette Avenue on Sunday around 11:45 p.m.

A male brandishin­g a blunt weapon had entered the business and demanded money.

In the hours that followed, police responded to five similar robbery incidents at various locations across the city, including:

A convenienc­e store in the 800 block of Campbell Avenue around 3 a.m. Monday.

A restaurant in the 400 block of Tecumseh Road East around 3:45 a.m. Monday.

A convenienc­e store in the 1300 block of Walker Road around 3:50 a.m. Monday.

A restaurant connected to the previous store in the 1300 block of Walker Road.

A restaurant in the 2200 block of Wyandotte Street East around 4 a.m. Monday.

Police believe it was the same culprit: A male armed with a blunt object resembling a club or stick.

No one was hurt in the robberies. In each incident, the suspect fled with a quantity of cash. Police released a surveillan­ce photo of the suspect on Monday and described public response as “tremendous.”

Informatio­n from the public led police to a home in the 900 block of Laporte Avenue where officers arrested a suspect. Charged with six counts of robbery with a weapon is Robert Davis, 55, of Windsor.
