Windsor’s Shawn Sehra has been selected to compete for Golf Ontario’s provincial under-19 boys’ team for the 2017-18 season.

The 14-year-old Sehra, who golfs out of Roseland and Essex, is the youngest member of the boys’ team.

“It’s definitely quite an honour,” said Sehra, who is a St. Joseph high school student. “It’s something I tried to work toward this year and I hit that goal.”

Sehra spent much of this past season competing against players four and five years his senior.

“For me, playing against the older age bracket, they look at your results and see the work ethic and the coachability,” Sehra said. “It’s a chance to reach another level to compete against other provinces and the United States.”

Golf Ontario has not officially released the team. In the past, the team has trained throughout the winter in Vaughan and featured Can-Am Matches in March and a competing Carolina Junior Golf Association in South Carolina.

“It’s a great working environment,” Sehra said. “All the practice facilities and coaches they have is all a junior could hope for.”

Express sign Nortmann: The Windsor Express signed veteran power forward Robert Nortmann on Tuesday.

The six-foot-nine, 235-pound Nortmann, who was born in the Bahamas and now lives in Canada, spent the past two seasons with the Island Storm and has also played for the Halifax Rainmen in the NBL of Canada.

“I am excited and expecting great things from this organization,” Nortmann said. “I will leave it all on the floor every night for our loyal fans. I am looking forward to being a part of this exciting team.”

A Dalhousie University grad, Nortmann has also played in the NBA D-League and in Australia.

High school football rankings: The Herman Green Griffins are currently ranked No. 5 in the latest CanadaFootballChat top 50 high school senior teams.

Herman, which has won fivestraight OFSAA Bowls, is 2-0 on the season with a forfeit win over Brennan and a 26-6 win over Massey.

The Holy Names Knights are the only other area team to make the rankings at No. 19. Holy Names is also 2-0 on the season with a 50-6 win over Catholic Central and a 42-0 win over Villanova.

OCAA honours Saints: St. Clair College Saints Matt Bondy was named OCAA baseball athlete of the week while Korede Adepitan was named OCAA men’s soccer athlete of the week on Tuesday.

Bondy, who is from Amherstburg, went six-for-seven with seven RBI in a pair of games for the Saints. For the season, Bondy is batting .370 and is tied for the OCAA lead with 11 runs driven in.

Adepitan scored six goals in St. Clair’s 9-1 win over Mohawk and now leads the OCAA in men’s scoring with eight goals this season.

Tecumseh girls’ baseball: Tecumseh Minor Baseball is offering a girls’ under-14 baseball team for the 2018 season.

The first tryout for the team is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carling Park in Tecumseh.

Prospective players are asked to bring a glove, a jill and athletic shoes. Anyone needing further information can find it at www.tmba. ca or by emailing tecumsehgirlsbaseball@gmail.com
