AKO Fratmen win regular season title

The Windsor AKO Fratmen won seven straight games to close out the season and secure the Ontario Football Conference regular-season title. The Fratmen beat the London Beefeaters 52-17 on Saturday at Alumni Field to clinch first place with a 7-1 record, while the Beefeaters finished in a tie for second in the conference with a 5-3 record along with Hamilton.

AKO quarterbac­k Brandon Reaume played just over a half of the game and passed for 303 yards and threw five touchdown passes while running in another.

Reaume threw touchdown passes to D’Angelo Knox, Devon Woods, Marcus Cooper-Williams, Adam Slikboer and Omar Hayes-Williams, who had 104 yards on six catches. Defensive back Ishamel Johnson scooped up a fumble and returned it 40 yards for AKO’s other touchdown, while kicker Andrew Beaton posted a kickoff single and seven converts. The defence forced a London safety.

AKO has a bye week before hosting the Ottawa Sooners in a semifinal playoff game on Oct. 21.

SAINTS FINISH FIFTH

The St. Clair College Saints finished in fifth place at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Associatio­n championsh­ip in Ottawa.

The Saints dropped a 4-3 decision in the quarter-finals to Durham College on Saturday, but rebounded on Sunday to beat Brock University in the fifth-place game by a 4-3 count.

FLYERS DROP ROCKETS

The first-place Leamington Flyers earned a 3-1 win on the road Saturday over the Strathroy Rockets in Western Conference play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Preston Corp, Josh Pope-Ferguson and Bryce O’Brien scored goals for the Flyers (9-1-0-0) while goalie Noah Hedrick picked up the win in net with 40 saves against the Rockets (4-5-0-1).

SHARKS CROWN KINGS

Steve MacDonald scored a pair of

goals to lead the Wheatley Sharks to a 5-1 win over the Dresden Junior Kings 5-1 on Saturday in Bill Stobbs Division play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Cameron Cronheimer, Dawson Iles and Carter Mastronard­i also scored for the Sharks (3-50-1), while goalie Daniel Tonietto picked up the win in net with 27 saves against the Junior Kings (53-0-0).

ST. CLAIR SOCCER

The St. Clair College Saints men’s team drew 2-2 at home with the Fanshawe Falcons in OCAA soccer action on Saturday, while the women’s team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Falcons.

St. Clair’s Martin Nyul opened the scoring in the 11th minute for the men and Dillon Hayes scored in the 48th minute to put the Saints up a goal once again, but the Falcons got the equalizer in the 85th minute. St. Clair is 4-2-1 on the season while the Falcons, who are ranked No. 5 in the country, have still not lost this season with a 7-0-2 mark.

The women’s team dominated play with a 6-2 edge in shots and four corners to none for the Falcons, but Fanshawe got the game’s only goal in the 54th minute

The Saints are now 4-2-1 on the season while the Falcons, who are ranked No. 10 in country, are 7-0-0.

STARS CLOSE SEASON

The Windsor TFC Stars closed out the League1 Ontario soccer season with a 10-0 loss on the road to Sigma FC in Mississaug­a.

Windsor finished in sixth place in the West Division with a 6-12-4 record overall while Sigma FC finished in second place with a record of 17-1-4.
