Fight leads to gun being pulled, man being shot
A 42-year-old Windsor man is facing charges after allegedly pulling out a gun Wednesday during what police call “a consensual fight” and shooting his adversary.
The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Tecumseh Road East. Police were already en route for a report of two men fighting when reports changed to that of gunshots.
The 35-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his hand and abdomen.
“The victim was able to speak with officers at the hospital,” the Windsor Police Service stated in a Thursday news release. “It was determined that this incident was not a random act, and that the victim and accused were known to one another.”
Tecumseh Road East was closed between Tourangeau and Aubin roads while police investigated.
The two people involved in the scuffle reportedly ran into each other inside a commercial establishment.
“They exchanged words over a long-standing dispute, then exited the business and became involved in a physical altercation,” the release said. “During the altercation, a firearm was produced and the victim was shot.”
Officers quickly arrested a suspect, who had injuries consistent with being in a fight. The man also had a small amount of suspected methamphetamine and a prohibited knife.
Numerous witnesses saw the suspect throw an item into a white pickup truck that was driven away before police arrived.
At about 6 p.m., officers located a truck matching the description in the 2300 block of George Avenue. It appeared to be marked with blood and bullet holes. Police seized the vehicle.
The major crimes branch is continuing its investigation.
