Police are investigating a homicide in the Little River Acres, formerly Villages of Riverside, that occurred early Saturday morning.

Windsor police received a call at 1:30 a.m. Saturday for shots fired in the 1100 block of Heathfield Court in the east end.

“Officers arrived to a scene with numerous people screaming that someone had been shot,” reads a Windsor police media release on the incident.

“It appeared that there had been a house party at a residence in the vicinity.”

Officers found a 23-year-old Windsor man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to hospital where he later died from his injuries. No arrests have yet been made. “The investigation is still in its very initial stages,” said Windsor police Sgt. Steve Betteridge.

On social media, the dead man has been identified as Windsor resident Jarvas Anthony Scott.

According to the website for Families First funeral home, a private service has already been held for Scott, referred to by his other last name, Poberezny.

A Facebook profile in Scott’s name shows a heavily tattooed young man who was a fan of rap music, watching pro basketball, sports betting, and marijuana — and had previous run-ins with the law.

Tattoos on Scott’s torso carry the messages, “The pain tells me I am alive” and “Only the strong survive.”

“My heart goes out to the Pobereznys, the Scotts, the Allards,” posted a mourner who identified himself as a cousin to the deceased.

Stephanie Adams, who lives across the street from where the incident occurred, said her husband woke her around 1:30 a.m., saying he heard people fighting outside. He saw two men pushing each other before one walked into the house and the other drove away. Minutes later, the car returned.

“(My husband) heard a commotion again and some arguing between two individuals,” she said. “Then he heard four gunshots and a white car took off again. The other guy was walking back to the house holding his stomach and the woman with him was yelling, ‘He’s been shot. He’s been shot.’ ”

Adams said she wasn’t sure whether the man who was killed lived at the house in the 1100 block of Heathfield Court. She said there was a party at the small house.

“It’s normally quiet. Sure, we’ve had our incidents, but nothing like this,” she said. “I’m just shocked and sad today.”

Windsor police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 519-255-6700, ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), or go online to catchcrooks.com.
