Trucker accused of driving too long

A trucker from Brampton is facing charges after a tractor trailer failed to slow down and change lanes for a stopped OPP cruiser on the shoulder of Highway 401 in ChathamKen­t. At around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a cruiser had made a traffic stop on eastbound Highway 401 near Duart Road. A second cruiser stopped behind the first cruiser to observe approachin­g traffic. A tractor-trailer sped past the stopped vehicles and did not change lanes, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The tractor-trailer was pursued by police and stopped. Joginder Singh, 58, is charged with driving after 14 hours of duty without eight hours off and failure to slow down and proceed with caution for an emergency vehicle. Fines for conviction of the fail to slow and move over charge range from $400 to $2,000 for the first offence and $1,000 to $4,000 for the second offence or imprisonme­nt for six months, or both.
