Express opens season with road win in Kitchener

The Windsor Express opened the NBL of Canada season with a 11698 road win over the KW Titans in Kitchener on Saturday.

Windsor built a 13-point lead after the first quarter and cruised to the victory.

All five Express starters finished in double figures led by Shaquille Keith, who had a game-high 25 points.

Devin White finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, Maurice Jones added 18 points and 16 assists while Braylon Rayson finished with 15 points and Logan Stutz added 14 points.

SAINTS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WINS FOURTH- STRAIGHT GAME

The St. Clair Saints women’s basketball team swept a pair of weekend OCAA basketball games at the SportsPlex while the men’s team split two games.

The women, who are now 5-2 and have won four-straight games, beat the Sheridan Bruins 70-64 on Sunday after taking out the Conestoga Condors on Saturday by an 84-47 scores. On Sunday, Shannon Kennedy led the Saints with 16 points while Logan Kucera had 14 points and 10 rebounds. On Saturday, Kucera had 15 points, Kennedy 14 points and Nicole Tamm and Marissa Mara finished with 12 points each.

The men, who are now 3-4 on the season, fell 105-82 to Sheridan on Sunday after beating Conestoga by a 108-80 count on Saturday. On Sunday, William Lara-Caston had 19 points for the Saints with Lance Drummonds finishing with 18 points and Gil Atencio had 15 points. On Saturday, Drummonds finished with 25 points, Atencio had 22 points, Lara-Caston had 14 points and Jermaine Lynch chipped in with 12.

FLYERS DROP LINCOLNS

Goalie Noah Hedrick made 25 saves to record his second shutout of the season as the Leamington Flyers moved back into first place in the Western Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League with a 6-0 win over the St. Marys Lincolns. Dylan Weston scored a pair of goals to lead the Flyers (15-7-2-1) against the Lincolns. (6-13-1-2). Parker Jacques, Josh Pope-Ferguson, Cody Schneider and Dalton Langlois added single goals.

LANCER MEN’S HOCKEY

Konnor Haas and Ryan Shaw each scored twice as the University of Windsor Lancers men’s hockey team knocked off the No. 7-ranked York Lions on the road Saturday in OUA men’s hockey action.

The Lancers, who beat Ryerson 7-2 on Friday, also got a single goal from Chris Scott to improve to 5-43 on the season while goalie Jon Reinhart made 33 saves against the West Division-leading Lions, who fell to 9-4-0 on the season.

LANCER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The No. 5-ranked U of Windsor Lancers women’s basketball team watched a double-digit lead disappear in the second half, but recovered to beat the Ottawa Gee- Gees 49-45 on the road Saturday in OUA women’s basketball action.

Nyamouch Teny’s three-point shot, with less than three minutes to play, snapped a 39-39 tie and put the Lancers up for good.

Windsor (5-1), which lost 7046 on the road on Friday to No. 5-ranked Carleton, got 12 points and 14 rebounds from captain Emily Prevost against Ottawa (3-4) while Carly Steer chipped in with 11 points.

LANCER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Tied at the half, the No. 9-ranked University of Ottawa Gee- Gees pulled away from the visiting University of Windsor Lancers in the second half for a 91-73 win in OUA men’s basketball on Saturday.

The Lancers, who lost 97-83 to No. 1-ranked Carleton on Friday, got 16 points fro Lucas Orlita. Chris Ploniato came off the bench to score 13 points for Windsor (24) while Marcus Jones finished with 12 points against the GeeGees (5-2).
