Kingsville will soon have its first condominium tower — and the municipality’s tallest building.

Developers announced Wednesday at an official sod-turning event their plan to build the six-storey Lakeside Park Place Condominiums at 6 Park Street, across from Lakeside Park and close to Lake Erie.

Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos applauded the development, not least because the town’s highest current building stands at only three storeys.

“It’s certainly a unique project,” Santos said. “It’s going to be the tallest building in the municipality. But it’s also unique because it’s going to encompass some design from history, in terms of architecture. Our Victorian design in Kingsville is going to be complemented with this development.

“And, more importantly, it provides a different type of housing that we currently don’t have available in the municipality.”

Kingsville’s population of 22,000 has been growing three to five per cent annually. Santos hopes that adding new, stylish housing will attract even more residents.

“I think it’s the beginning of the next generation for the municipality,” Santos said.

Santos noted that the town did not offer any incentives to attract the development, only a nice town with a beautiful view.

“The location is special,” said Tara Loop, spokeswoman for investor group MHC, which is developing the project.

“The design is amazing. And the fact that it’s the first time you can offer condominium living in Kingsville is really exciting.”

Lakeside Park Place, which will take Petretta Construction 12 to 14 months to build, will offer 39 units. Half are already spoken for. Prices start at about $350,000, with early buyers able to pay for custom design.

“The sky is the limit, depending on what you want to put in it,” Loop said.

“It is being built from the ground up.”

Stephen Berrill, an architect with Architectural Design Associates, which is handling the project, said Lakeside Park Place will offer some attractive elements in a comfortable setting, including a sloped roof, underground parking, a common space on the sixth floor and an outdoor patio with a great view.

“We’ve kept a residential look,” Berrill said.

“It’s not too modern or contemporary. It fits with the nature of the town.”
