Driver accused of drunk driving after chasing another motorist

- DALSON CHEN

A Windsor motorist is facing impaired driving charges after he almost struck another vehicle, then reportedly pursued that vehicle while yelling obscenities.

The incident happened early Monday, around 2:20 a.m., starting in the eastbound lanes of Tecumseh Road East near Hall Avenue.

While pulling out of a parking lot, a yellow Ford Mustang nearly collided with another vehicle.

The Mustang driver shouted and cursed at the other driver further along Tecumseh Road East. With the Mustang continuing its erratic moves, the other driver decided to call police. The complainant then followed the Mustang until it parked at a residence. The Mustang ’s driver noticed the complainant’s vehicle and began yelling and swearing again — then reportedly pursued the complainant.

By that time, patrol officers were looking for the yellow Mustang. They located and stopped it in the area of North Talbot Road near Sixth Concession Road.

The officers believed that the driver of the Mustang was impaired from consuming alcohol.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested and subsequently charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving and having a blood-alcohol level that exceeded the legal limit.

Windsor police remind members of the public to immediately call 911 if they suspect they have encountered an impaired driver.

However, police emphasize that it’s never advisable to follow an impaired driver. It’s sufficient to observe and report as much information as possible, such as licence plate and make and model of the suspect vehicle; physical descriptions of the suspect vehicle and its driver; the vehicle’s last direction of travel; and the nature of the driving behaviour observed.

Windsor police welcome tips at 519-255-6700, ext. 4000.
