Pair facing charges after break-in spree

- DALSON CHEN

The Windsor police property crimes unit has laid more than 70 charges against an alleged criminal pair in connection with a string of city break-ins.

Melvin Jackson, 30, and Sara Chiarotti, 28, were identified, arrested and charged with multiple offences after what Windsor police describe as a spree of break-andenter incidents.

A total of nine break ins took place in Windsor apartment buildings over a period of four days during the month of October.

Along with breaking into dwellings, there were thefts of personal property and a vehicle, as well as

property damage. Windsor police remind the public that property crimes cost Canadians millions of dollars in losses every year.

“Although there is no direct human victim ... the effects on the property owner can be severe,” Windsor police said in a statement to the media.

Jackson is charged with nine counts of breaking and entering; 10 counts of mischief (property damage); 10 counts of possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000); six counts of possession of another person’s identification; two counts of theft (under $5,000); theft of a motor vehicle; possession of break-and-enter tools and breach of probation.

Chiarotti has been charged with four counts of breaking and entering; eight counts of mischief (property damage); 10 counts of possession of property obtained by crime (under $5,000), six counts of possession of another person’s identification; two counts of theft (under $5,000) and breach of probation.
