A late rally came up just short as the Windsor Express fell 105-103 to the St. John’s Edge Wednesday in NBL of Canada play.

The game marked the end of a seven-game road trip for the Express, who return home Friday to face Moncton Miracles at the WFCU Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.

Windsor (7-9) went 3-4 on the road trip and handed St. John’s (9-5) its first home loss of the season Tuesday, but watched a 9590 lead disappear Wednesday in Newfoundland over the final three minutes 39 seconds.

SPITFIRES GRANT TAPPED FOR PROSPECTS GAME

Windsor Spitfires head equipment manager J.R. Grant will work at the 2018 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Guelph.

Grant was named equipment manager for Team Orr for the Jan. 25 event, which features 40 of the top CHL players eligible for the 2018 NHL draft.

FORMER SPITFIRES MOVE

Three former Windsor Spitfires have new hockey homes.

On Wednesday, centre Adam Kadlec, released by the team Monday, was signed by the Sioux City Musketeers of the North American Hockey League.

Meanwhile, former Spitfires forward Cole Carter was traded Wednesday by the Kitchener Rangers to the Mississauga Steelheads for a pair of third-round picks and a sixth-round pick.

Also on the move is former Spitfires forward Brett Primeau, who was traded by the London Nationals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League to the Listowel Cyclones. The 20-year-old Primeau played three seasons with the LaSalle Vipers.

FLYERS ADD TETRAULT

The Leamington Flyers got a boost on defence Wednesday by adding defenceman Levi Tetrault from the Brantford 99ers.

The 19-year-old Tetrault spent parts of three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Guelph Storm.

“We’re very excited to add a player of his calibre, who has over 100 games of OHL experience,” Flyers general manager Kevin Hopper said. “He’s a very solid defensive defenceman, who will add to our leadership group both on and off the ice.”

In 30 games this season with Brantford, which also plays in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, the six-foot-one, 190-pound Tetrault had four goals and 16 points along with 38 penalty minutes.

ADMIRALS ADD MACVOY

The Amherstburg Admirals picked up 18-year-old defenceman Keegan MacVoy Wednesday from the junior B Chatham Maroons.

As well, the Bill Stobbs Division team in the Provincial Junior Hockey League released forwards Kadin Ritchie and David Cooke, defenceman Jack Hubbell and goalie Catalin Morin.

“As much success as we have had in the second (half) of the year, we knew we needed to upgrade our depth up front and we added a top-four defenceman in Keegan MacVoy, which is a big boost for us,” Admirals head coach and general manager Paul Bortignon said.

The Lakeshore Canadiens also made a roster move Wednesday, releasing defenceman Colton Coates.
