Brown-John not well informed

-

Re: Assessing city council members before elections, guest column by Lloyd BrownJohn, Dec. 29.

It would appear Lloyd Brown-John knows quite a bit about our city councillors, as he describes their activities during these past three years. But I question this.

For instance, he states Coun. John Elliott is a real community person. Does Brown-John know Elliott proclaimed “sprawl is the future” during council’s debate in 2016 about funding for the new mega-hospital?

Brown-John claims Coun. Rino Bortolin, whose downtown ward harbours the opioid and homeless crisis, has a tendency to overstate and dramatize. Really?

He claims Coun. Chris Holt has an “almost universal negative view of many civic issues” and “sounds just plain bitter.” What I hear from Holt is sound reasoning backed by facts which are available for all to see.

And I can sense which hot button issue Coun. Bill Marra is sure to come down on as he votes with a clear understanding of civic issues.

These are just a few examples. I formed my opinion of Brown-John years ago when he declared in another opinion piece that he liked the location of the proposed mega-hospital as it would save him driving time. He didn’t base it on anything else — not the environment, the economic impact to the city, nor the social injustice to the many.

His opinions mean nothing to me, nor to the many who commented on his column online. Caroline Taylor, Windsor
