Colio welcomes wine lovers

The weekend’s icy weather provided the perfect backdrop for the 18th annual Festival of Ice at Colio Estate Winery.

The two-day festival is the winery’s largest event of the year with over $10,000 in sales and attendance of more than 800.

“We have a lot of people from out of town and locally here,” said Cindy Lee Kok, sales associate with Colio. “There are a lot of icewine lovers out there. And who doesn’t like wine?

“It’s just a real fun event. It’s great to have something like this in the middle of winter to bring people out.”

The event features ice sculptures, a chocolate fountain, tours of the winery, a fire pit, DJ music and food truck. A popular feature was an ice luge through which you can pour icewine.

T.J. Botsford of Windsor and Vicki Pesce of Amherstburg say they have made it their own personal tradition to attend the Colio festival in Harrow each winter.

“This is our fourth-straight year,” Botsford said.

“We just enjoy the scenery, tasting some of the different wines. The food truck is pretty nice.

“We just enjoy being here every year.”

Entry was free for those who brought a non-perishable food item to be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society food bank for Harrow and Colchester.
