Express lose their Edge late

The Windsor Express let a doubledigi­t lead slip away in the second half on Monday in a 112-108 loss to the St. John’s Edge at the WFCU Centre in the National Basketball League of Canada. The Express were up 62-48 at the half.

Logan Stutz led the Express (13-14) with 26 points. Maurice Jones had 19 points, while Chad Frazier had 18 points along with Omar Strong. Shaquille Keith added 13 points against the Edge (18-10).

LANCERS BASKETBALL

Senior Emily Prevost ended her regular-season career in style for the University of Windsor Lancers on Saturday.

Prevost had 25 points and 18 rebounds to lead the No. 8-ranked Lancers to a 68-50 win over the Brock Badgers at the St. Denis Centre.

With her performanc­e, Prevost finishes her career with 1,176 points and 809 rebounds, which is a school record.

The Lancers (20-4) now have a first-round playoff by and will host a quarter-final match Saturday.

The men’s team closed out its season with an upset over No. 2-ranked Brock by a 96-83 count.

Down 10 points early, the Lancers (13-11) rallied behind Mike Rocca’s 27-point effort. Lucas Orlita had 18 points, Damian Persault added 14 points and Marcus Jones and Luke Allin had 10 points each.

Windsor will host Waterloo in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.

LANCERS HOCKEY

The University of Windsor Lancers’ hope of a playoff upset came up short on Sunday.

The No. 6-ranked Guelph Gryphons scored four goals in the opening period and scored a 6-1 win over the Lancers.

With it, Guelph won the best-ofthree series in the OUA West Division 2-1. Jake Brown had the lone goal for the Lancers.

On Saturday, the Lancers forced a third game with a 4-3 win at home behind goals from Todd Ratchford, Ben Assad, Ian Parker and Max McCutcheon and 32 saves from Matt Badour.

ADMIRALS OUSTED

The fourth-seeded Amherstbur­g Admirals were bounced from the Bill Stobbs Division playoffs in the Provincial Junior Hockey League on Sunday after a 1-0 loss to the Mooretown Flags.

Amherstbur­g led the best-ofseven series 3-1, but watched the fifth-seeded Flags rally to win the final three games of the series.

Bryce McGregor and Broden Meloche scored for the Admirals in Saturday ’s 5-2 loss in Mooretown.

JUNIOR B

The Leamington Flyers had a five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 3-0 loss on the road to the Sarnia Legionnair­es in West Division play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The Flyers (30-11-4-3) got a 39-save performanc­e from goalie Noah Hedrick against the fourthplac­e Legionnair­es (27-14-1-5).

On Sunday, the LaSalle Vipers (30-16-1-1) dropped a 7-0 decision on the road to the Chatham Maroons (22-21-1-2).

SAINTS VOLLEYBALL

The St. Clair Saints women’s volleyball team is headed to the OCAA championsh­ip tournament after winning Saturday ’s crossover playoff game against the Georgian Grizzlies at the SportsPlex.

The Saints took the match 3-1 and rallied after dropping the first game 22-25 to win the final three games 25-17, 27-25 and 25-13.

Middle Jessica Masse had 15 kills and outside hitter Taylor Fitzgerald had 10 kills for the Saints, who will play the Centennial Colts in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

The men’s team was unable to advance after dropping its crossover match 3-0 on the road Saturday to the Fleming Knights by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-17.

SAINTS BASKETBALL

Shannon Kennedy became the OCAA’s all-time points leader in women’s basketball as the St. Clair Saints split a pair of weekend games.

An early three-point shot gave Kennedy the record of 1,344 career points in a 93-68 loss to Humber.

Kennedy finished with 19 points and added another 17 on Sunday in a 62-42 win over Sheridan.

The men’s team lost both weekend games.

Nik Veigil had 15 points in a 106-91 loss to Sheridan, while Jermaine Lynch finished with 23 points in a 98-86 loss to Humber.
