Sanctuary marks Miner’s birthday
Celebrations are planned for the 153rd birthday of Canada’s first conservationist at his Kingsville bird sanctuary. Jack Miner’s birthday is April 10, which falls in the middle of National Wildlife Week — a tradition for 71 years ago. This year, National Wildlife Week runs from April 8 to 14 and will feature several events. On April 8, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., there will be a pancake and sausage breakfast. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be an environmental raptors demonstration. On April 10, from noon to 2 p.m. there will be a birthday party with free cake. At 7 p.m., there will be a spring decor session with a $10 fee (registration required). On April 11 at 7 p.m. there will be a walk and talk in the Miner woods. Registration is required. On April 13 the Sun Parlour Folk Music Society presents J.P. Cormier and Dave Gunning ($25 admission). On April 14, a party features Almost Famous and The Rock Farm Band. Tickets are $55 per couple and tables of eight for $220. Tickets are on sale at the sanctuary, 360 Road 3 West, at Alterations by Liz/Blondies Cleaners, 49 Main St. E., and Back in Motion Chiropractic, 22 Heritage Rd.
