Plan calls for places like Black Oak park

-

Did you know our city has a bicycle use master plan? It’s a 20-year guide developed in 2001 to establish a vision and goals for cycling in Windsor. The city made a commitment to consider recreation and cycling trends with community and neighbourhood desires. It is noted that the city would continue to develop other off-road trails through parks and promote cycling tourism. If this is their mandate, why would they close Black Oak Heritage Park?

Citizens, parents and children use the single-track trails within Black Oak.

All this activity takes place without displacement of the natural area and species that flourish there. What is better than a healthy, active community? Black Oak is a safe and beautiful area for all sorts of recreational activities. Over the years, I’ve seen walkers with or without pets, bikers and joggers — all enjoying the area while respecting the flora and fauna. The plan also indicates that the city would establish a full-time cycling co-ordinator position in the traffic engineering department. If this position actually exists, I imagine this person would have attended the most recent meetings the city held regarding the future of cycling in Windsor. No such introductions were made. The year 2021 is quickly approaching. If the city wishes to genuinely take into consideration the desires of their citizens and develop off-road trails, keep Black Oak open. We need it, we want it. The city should keep its word and meet the goals in the plan. Michelle Lee, Windsor
