Belle River, which is the defending tournament champion, beat No. 2-seed Ottawa Immaculata 5-3 in pool play after opening with a 3-1 win over No. 11 Toronto De La Salle. Against De La Salle, the Nobles got goals from Eric Larue, Marco Sladoje and Owen Meyerink, into an empty net, and got a strong goaltending performance from Kagan Doherty-Awram.

CANADA PICKS TUTU

Canada Basketball named Windsor native Munis Tutu to its 12team 2018 Commonwealth Games men’s team to compete in Gold Coast, Australia from April 4-15. The 21-year-old Tutu recently won a bronze medal with the Carleton Ravens at the U Sports men’s basketball championship where he posted a game-high six assists in a 76-71 win over the Carleton Ravens. A six-foot, 175-pound point guard, Tutu started his high school career at Forster, but finished at La Lumiere in La Porte, Ind.

TULLIO FALLS SHORT

Lakeshore’s Ty Tullio and his Vaughn Kings teammates fell short of the title at the OHL Cup. Tullio, who finished tied for third in tournament scoring, had an assist on the lone Vaughn goal in a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in Monday’s final at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

Part of the Jr. Canadiens’ run to the title included a quarter-final win over the Sun County Panthers, which is a showcase for players leading up to April’s OHL Draft.
