March 30, 1968: Born in Charlemagn­e, Que.

1981: René Angélil remortgage­s his home to help finance Dion’s first album. 1982: Wins top prize at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo.

1984: Sings for Pope John Paul II at the Olympic Stadium for an audience of 65,000.

1988: Wins the Eurovision song contest, representi­ng Switzerlan­d. 1990: Releases her first English album, Unison. 1991: Duets with Peabo Bryson on the title song for the Disney film Beauty and the Beast, which goes on to win Oscar and Grammy awards. 1994: Marries Angélil at Notre-Dame Basilica. 1995: Releases D’eux, which is the bestsellin­g Frenchlang­uage album ever and is considered by many to be Dion’s finest album. 1997: Releases My Heart Will Go On, the theme song from Titanic, which goes on to win the Oscar for best song. 2001: Dion’s son RenéCharle­s is born.

2003: The residency A New Day begins at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

2007: A New Day wraps near the end of the year, having grossed $400 million. 2010: Dion gives birth to twin boys. 2011: A second Vegas residency begins. 2013: Dion releases her most recent English album, Loved Me Back to Life. 2014: Dion stops all concert activities in order to be with her ailing husband, who had throat cancer. 2015: Dion returns to the Colosseum stage after a oneyear hiatus. 2016: She performs in Montreal for the first time in seven years, headlining 10 concerts at the Bell Centre. 2016: Releases her most recent French album, Encore un soir. 2017: Launches a line of handbags. 2018: Dion turns 50 on March 30.
