Road-warrior ways continue for Clippers

The Windsor Clippers stayed unbeaten on the road after Sunday’s 16-12 win over the Wallacebur­g Red Devils in Ontario Lacrosse Associatio­n junior B action. The win came a day after the club let an early two-goal lead slip away in a 5-4 loss to the Elora Mohawks Saturday in the club’s home opener at Forest Glade Arena.

On Sunday, the Clippers got four goals and eight points from Chase Kavanaugh, while Brayden Mayea had four goals and seven points. Jake Rosa chipped in with three goals for the Clippers (2-1), while Darian Delise had two goals and single goals went to Nathan Salaris, Brendan Wallace and Aaron Dugan. Goalie Carson Hebner made 45 saves against the Red Devils (1-1).

On Saturday, Elora (2-0) scored a pair of power-play goals for the winning margin. Rosa and Brayden Mayea each had two goals and three points, while Hebner finished with 31 saves.

TRACK AND FIELD

Two former members of the University of Windsor Lancers had solid performanc­es Saturday at the Louisiana State University Alumni Gold track and field meet in Baton Rouge, La. Competing for the University of Windsor Athletics Club, Milos Savic won the men’s pole vault, while Noelle Montcalm finished second in the women’s 400-metre hurdles at the meet.

Savic, who is a Herman high school product, posted a new personal best by clearing 5.11 metres to win the competitio­n.

A former Canadian Olympian, Montcalm, who is a St. Joseph high school product, finished second in a time of 56.61 behind Olympic bronze-medallist Ashley Spencer, who won the race in 56.44.

SCHULERT HONOURED

Kingsville’s Devan Schulert was named to the NCAA Horizon League’s all-academic team. A senior golfer for the University of Detroit Mercy, Schulert, who is a Cardinal Carter high school grad, holds a 3.84 grade-point average in his pre-dental major. Schulert, who is in his final season, is a four-time member of the school’s athletic director’s honour roll and a multiple member of the Horizon League’s fall and spring honour roll.

Schulert has started in six of the seven events on the season and is fifth on the squad with a 78.05 average. He recently carded a career best 221 at the Bobby Nichols In- ter collegiate in Seviervill­e, Tenn.

BOSTON MARATHON

Travis Fehr was inadverten­tly left off the list of local finishers at the April 16 Boston Marathon. The 22-year-old Fehr, who is from Staples, finished the 42-kilometre course in a time of 3:07.45.
