It took 70 minutes for Windsor TFC to open the scoring in Sunday’s League1 Ontario men’s soccer match at Alumni Field at University of Windsor Stadium. However, TFC could not hold the lead over the final 20 minutes with the first-year Unionville Milliken SC scoring three unanswered goals for a 3-1 win.

Jamar Kelly put Windsor up 1-0 with a goal in the 70th minute, but Unionville tied the match in the 79th minute, took the lead two minutes later and added an insurance goal in the 89th minute.

Clippers edged: The Windsor Clippers stayed close, but eventually dropped an 11-10 decision to the powerhouse Six Nations Rebels in Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B action on Saturday at Forest Glade Arena.

Rookie Brayden Mayea had three goals and five points to lead the Clippers (2-2). Chase Kavanaugh, Connor McManus and Darien Delisle each scored a pair of goals while Noah Bushnell finished with a goal and five assists. Goalie Carson Hebner finished with 42 saves in the Windsor net against Rebels (6-0).

Quick field: The University of Windsor Lancers’ Kelsey Balkwill helped Canada’s 4x400-metre women’s relay to a first-place finish on Saturday at the LSU Invitational track and field meet, which was held in Baton Rouge, La. Balkwill, who is an Essex high school product, teamed with Micha Powel, Alyanna Stiverne and Travia Jones to win the race in three minutes, 29.23 seconds, which is the eighth-fastest time in the world this season.

Belle River’s Noelle Montcalm helped Canada’s B team to a fourth-place finish in the race. Montcalm, Carline Muir, Alicia Brown and Chanice Chase finished in 3:31.24. Individually, Montcalm also finished fourth in the women’s 400-metre hurdles in a time of 56.23.

Lancer prep: St. Anne Saints’ freshman Bradley Murphy was the area’s lone athlete to set a new record on Saturday at the Lancer Prep Invitational track and field meet, which was held at Alumni Field at University of Windsor Stadium. In cool and blustery conditions, Murphy set a new record in the midget boys’ pole vault by clearing 2.60 metres. That broke the old mark of 2.55 metres set in 2012 by Aurora St. Maximilian Kolbe Mustangs Ross Benn, who went on to win four OFSAA medals in the event.

Saints coach: Jim Stewart has joined the St. Clair College Saints cross-country program as an assistant coach under head coach Paul Boots.

Stewart has over 40 years of experience in distance running and spent 16 years at St. Joseph high school before moving over to Vista Academy high school in 2012.
