Caesars Windsor postpones shows set for June
Sorry, fans of pop-punk band Blink-182, comedian Russell Peters, or country music artist Cole Swindell: Those shows at Caesars Windsor have been indefinitely postponed. The casino resort announced on Wednesday that the ongoing strike has forced the further postponement of Colosseum performances and the cancellation of hotel reservations up until and including June 16. The measure is bound to disappoint audiences who were anticipating the upcoming concerts by Blink-182 (June 2), Peters (June 15), and Swindell (June 16). But the lost concerts are only the latest in what has become a long list of indefinitely postponed events and cancelled hotel bookings at Caesars Windsor as a result of the labour disruption. Since the strike began on April 6, Caesars Windsor has had to postpone 12 shows at the Colosseum, including blues legend Buddy Guy (originally set for April 13), Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson (set for May 4), and Cuban-American rapper Pitbull (set for May 25). The company broke the most recent bad news by once again describing it as a “difficult yet necessary decision.” As in the case of previous postponements, tickets will be honoured if alternative show dates are scheduled — but no dates have been announced. Ticket holders may seek refunds via their point-of-purchase — except anyone who bought advance tickets in person from the casino’s box office, who will have to wait until the strike ends and box office staff return to work. Any hotel reservations booked until June 16 have been automatically cancelled. Affected guests are being contacted via phone or email. Those with inquiries are directed to call 1-800-991-8888 or vipservice@caesarswindsor.com. Wednesday marked Day 48 of the strike by all Caesars Windsor employees represented by Unifor Local 444. Wages have been the major point of contention in the dispute. The membership have rejected two tentative agreements. As of Wednesday afternoon, no future bargaining dates had been set.
