- CRAIG PEARSON cpearson@postmedia.com

If you’re a fan of Herman, this is your weekend. Herman Academy, for most of its life known as W.F. Herman Secondary School, is marking its 60th year in 2018.

A 60th anniversary Herman reunion is planned for the weekend, courtesy of the Herman alumni volunteer committee. There is a Welcoming Night Party at Charly ’s Brew Pub on Friday evening, an open house on Saturday afternoon at the school, a large casual pub-style reunion at the Caboto Club on Saturday evening and a Nine-Hole Golf Scramble on Sunday afternoon. Money raised yearly through a golf tournament helps support a breakfast/ lunch program, a scholarship and funding for sports teams at the school. Most recently, an electronic basketball shooting machine was purchased for the school.

Funds raised at the reunion will go toward the school’s 60th Reunion Legacy Project. Herman has graduated more than 80,000 students since its doors opened in 1958.

A number of Herman alumni have gone on to great success, including: BlackBerry co-founders Mike Lazaridis and Douglas Fregin, Olympic boxer Mary Spencer, former NFL player Oshiomogho Isaac “O.J.” Atogwe, USA pharmaceutical industry leader Faheem Hasnain, NHL coach and former player Bob Boughner, model Aleece Wilson and European professional soccer player Stephen Ademolu.
