$1 million ticket sold here

Somewhere in Windsor lurks a possible new millionaire.

The winning ticket for Friday night’s $60-million Lotto Max jackpot was sold in Quebec, but one of nine Maxmillions prizes worth $1 million each was sold in Windsor.

Other million-dollar tickets were purchased in the London area, Mississauga, Ottawa, Toronto (two), the Pembroke area and Whitby. A million-dollar Encore prize ticket was sold in Sudbury. Lottery players can check their numbers on the Winning Numbers page on OLG.ca or on the OLG Lottery app.

Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario Lotto Max players have won over $4.2 billion, including 57 jackpot wins and 447 Maxmillions prizes, according to the OLG, the Ontario government agency that manages gambling in the province.

The odds of matching all seven numbers between one to 49 on a $5 ticket to win the jackpot or the Maxmillions prize are over one in 28 million. According to those who ponder these things, playing and winning Lotto Max is more than 40 times less likely to happen than getting killed by a terrorist while travelling (one in 650,000 odds). Of course, the golden milliondollar Lotto Max ticket was merely sold in Windsor — it could have simply been purchased by some lucky soul passing through the city. The next Lotto Max jackpot for June 15 is an estimated $35 million.
