Man in custody as police probe west-end murder

- BRIAN CROSS

Police have a man in custody as they investigate the city’s fifth homicide of the year.

They were called Tuesday morning to a home in the 1400 block of Everts Avenue in the city’s west end.

“We are investigating this as a homicide. We have one person that is deceased and we do have a male in custody,” Windsor Police spokesman Const. Andy Drouillard told reporters Wednesday. He said he had few details to provide because it was early in the investigation. “We know there’s no threat to the public as we do have this person in custody,” he said. Police were called to a residence at about 10:20 a.m.

“Our detectives are ... combing the scene, and our ident unit, and we’re canvassing the area for witnesses,” said Drouillard.

He said it’s too early to talk about what charges the man in custody is facing.

“That is in the process as we speak.”

People with information are asked to call the major crimes division at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477.

“It’s early in the investigation, so we hope to update the public with more information as the scene unfolds, probably tomorrow,” Drouillard said.

On Feb. 14, the body of Chance Gauthier, 16, was found lying face down in an alley in the 900 block of Church Street.

On March 24, officers arrived at a home in the 1900 block of Daytona Avenue, where they discovered Lakeshore district fire Chief Joe St. Louis there with life-threatening injuries.
