Vortex, Royals players dominate all-star selections

Four and three players from each named to girls Tier 2 first-team soccer squad

The Vista Academy Vortex topped the WECSSAA girls’ soccer Tier II all-star selections with four players from the school earning firstteam selections.

Vista Academy’s Payton Boggs, Ava Grunder, Kailyn Robertson and Jazmine Scott are joined on the first team by three members of the WECSAA girls’ A champion Lajeunesse Royals in Maya Calongcago­ng, Michaela DiFranco and Megan Murtagh.

The remaining first-team allstars feature Herman Green Griffins Aryana Brown and Makayla Simpson along with the Assumption Purple Raiders’ Alexa Mognon.

The second-team all-stars for Tier II include Herman’s Lauryn Wade, Shelby MacLellan and Jordyn Doe along with Assumption’s Vanessa Stephenson and Alec Habash.

The following provides a brief look at the first-team player selections.

Payton Boggs

School: Vista Academy Vortex Position: Striker/midfielder Grade: 12

Most memorable moment: Being named a first-team all-star in two consecutiv­e years.

Future plans: Headed to University of Windsor to study concurrent education and play soccer. Aryana Brown

School: Herman Green Griffins Position: Forward

Grade: 11

Most memorable moment: Scoring two goals in an 8-0 win over Riverside.

Future plans: Returning to Herman for my Grade 12 season.

Maya Calongcago­ng School: Lajeunesse Royals Position: Forward/midfielder Grade: 12

Most memorable moment: Scoring four goals and winning the SWOS SAA final on penalty kicks to advance to OFSAA.

Future plans: Headed to the University of Windsor to study human kinetics.

Michaela DiFranco

School: Lajeunesse Royals Position: Midfielder

Grade: 12

Most memorable moment: Being top goal scorer for the school. Future plans: Headed to University of Windsor to study business administra­tion and hopefully play soccer.

Ava Grunder

School: Vista Academy Vortex Position: Midfielder

Grade: 9 Most memorable moment: Going undefeated and advancing to the WECSSAA final.

Future plans: Returning to Vista Academy for Grade 10.

Alexa Mognon

School: Assumption Purple Raiders

Position: Midfielder

Grade: 11

Most memorable moment: Scoring a bar-down from a curved corner kick against Lajeunesse to win the game.

Future plans: Returning to Assumption for Grade 12.

Megan Murtagh

School: Lajeunesse Royals Position: Midfielder

Grade: 11

Most memorable moment: Going to OFSAA in North Bay.

Future plans: Returning to Lajeunesse for Grade 12.

Kailyn Robertson

School: Vista Academy Vortex Position: Striker

Grade: 10

Most memorable moment: Advancing to the WECSSAA final. Future plans: Returning to Vista Academy for Grade 11.

Jazmine Scott

School: Vista Academy Vortex Position: Goalkeeper

Grade: 10

Most memorable moment: Beating Cardinal Carter 10-1 to advance to the WECSSAA final.

Future plans: Returning to Vista Academy for Grade 11.

Makayla Simpson

School: Herman Green Griffins Position: Defender

Grade: 11

Most memorable moment: Beating Assumption at home.

Future plans: Returning to Herman for Grade 12.
