KELTON, Helen Lois

-

Helen Lois (Greenhow) Kelton, 100, died in her sleep on July 14, 2018. Born on September 12, 1917 in Windsor, Helen was the first of five sisters. Beloved wife of late husband John Thomas Kelton for over 75 years. Cherished by her children, Sheila, John (Kathleen) and Peter (Gail); and treasured by her grandchildren Cassie McFarlane (Patrick Kirstein), Paul McFarlane, Joel McFarlane (Jen Scholefield), David, Fraser (Kristen Chamberlain), Kimberly Kelton, Brian (Michael Bennardo), Stephen (Katie), Chrissy Kelton; and her great-grandchildren Stanley Kirstein, Marin, Lane, Natalie Kelton, Wren Kelton. She will be greatly missed by her surviving sisters Marion Morley and Ruth Way, and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband John, and by her parents Hubert and Gladys (Wilson) Greenhow and her sisters Elsbeth Bostwick and Janet Greenhow. In 1942, she married the love of her life, John Thomas Kelton, and paused her career as an artist and a photographer to raise their three children. Her children, her grandchildren, her sisters and their families, and her husband John's family, were the joy of her life. She enjoyed and cherished her many lifelong friendships. As her children left home, she resumed her career first as a librarian and then as an artist bringing beauty to everything she touched. Her art was as varied as it was inspired. She mastered and then shared the beautiful objects she created through flower arranging, decoupage, painting, pottery, and stained glass. Although she did not receive formal training, throughout her life, she enjoyed providing professional career counselling and relationship advice to her children and grandchildren alike. A woman with an astonishing vocabulary, she used it with great effect during Scrabble games with her husband and children, but she curiously became much less skilled during the Scrabble games with her grandchildren. She had a joyous laugh that spoke to her love of life. As a quiet Christian, she lived a life of love and deep affection for all. She was a lifelong member of Grace and Truth Chapel of Windsor. Helen's family extends much gratitude to the staff of Kingsville Court and Royal Oak Long Term Care for their loving care during her residence there. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 18 from 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., and Thursday, July 19 from 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre located at 1969 Wyandotte St. East, Windsor, ON N8Y 1E5. The funeral will take place on Thursday, July 19 at 10:30 a.m. The Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre.
