Fundraising campaign for son of homicide victim

- DALSON CHEN

A fundraising effort has begun for the 10-year-old son of Autumn Taggart, the Windsor woman whose death in June remains an unsolved homicide case. Started by a friend of the family, the GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Gavin Sherwin says the boy is currently living with his father, Chris Sherwin, whose partner took leave from work in order to care for Gavin this summer.

“A donation to this campaign will help get them through the rest of the summer, allowing them to buy food, clothing and to pay the bills,” wrote Travis Reitsma. “Donations will also contribute to moving expenses and new clothing and school supplies for Gavin.” Meanwhile, the sudden death of 31-year-old Taggart remains under investigation by Windsor police. Also known as Maya Madolyn, Taggart’s body was found in her apartment at 1382 University Ave. West (near McKay Avenue) on June 10.

Police believe Taggart was killed some time that morning. The cause of death was blunt-force trauma. The child was in the apartment when the homicide occurred. Reitsma described the Sherwin family as “dealing with unimaginable circumstances.” Investigators continue to appeal to the public for any information about the incident. They are especially interested in information regarding a dark, newer model SUV that was parked behind the apartment building on the date in question between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Anyone who noticed anything or has any information about this case is asked to call the major crimes branch at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
