A hit-and-run driver didn’t stand a chance Tuesday night after an army of pedestrians and motorists swung into action to nab a motorist on city streets south of the downtown. Ashlee Hayward told the Star she was walking south down Ouellette Avenue after 7:30 p.m. after dinner with her son at a Wendy’s restaurant when she heard a loud racket. According to witnesses, a silver Chrysler 300 was westbound on Hanna Street when it “flew through the stop” sign at Goyeau Street and then again at the next intersection at Dufferin Place. That’s where the car hit a Vets Cab. The motorist got out of his vehicle, scooped up the front bumper, put it inside the car and continued on his way. With witnesses in pursuit, the damaged vehicle hit another vehicle before “everybody ran up, pulled him out and took the keys out.” Officers were soon on the scene. An adult male was placed in handcuffs and released at the scene. Police said he’s facing several provincial charges.
