British singer earns sustainable fashion honour
Ellie Goulding has been honoured for her promotion of sustainable fashion.
The British singer-songwriter abides by a vegan diet and has long advocated wearing clothes and accessories that underscore messages of sustainability and environmentalism. Organizers at Fashion 4 Development’s First Ladies Luncheon at The Pierre Hotel in New York presented Goulding, 31, with the Eco Prize — an award she was thrilled to receive.
“Such an honour and privilege to meet such inspiring and bada*s women today,” she captioned a snap posted on Instagram showing her addressing guests at the event. “I will always use my platform to encourage others to be a steward of the beautiful planet we are all lucky enough to be on. Therefore, I will always be a huge supporter of sustainable fashion.”
For the bash, Goulding chose to wear a black dress from Londonbased designer Edeline Lee and black pumps from eco-conscious fashion star Stella McCartney. Hollywood actress Amber Heard was also given the Angel Award at the event. “Honoured to have received the Angel Award at today’s Fashion4Development #FirstLadiesLuncheon. Congrats to my fellow honorees!” the 32-year-old Heard wrote alongside a photo from the red carpet. Actor Aldis Hodge hosted the ceremony, while Eco-Age founder Livia Firth introduced The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange runway show held during the lunch, with the show featuring the handiwork of artisans from around the world. Regarding the presentation, Fashion 4 Development’s Evie Evangelou said: “I have always believed that fashion is an instrument by which culture is created and a mirror through which culture is reflected.”
