Tecumseh gives fire truck to St. Clair College
The Tecumseh Fire and Rescue Service has donated a pumper truck to St. Clair College to help train future firefighters. Lido Zuccato, chair of skilled trades at St. Clair College, said the truck will help replace the two aging vehicles that students have been training on.
“The students are going to be able to use modern equipment,” said Zuccato. “They don’t have to worry about the pump not working, or certain parts of the truck not working. It’s going to be very, very beneficial to the students.” The truck will be used by students of the pre-service firefighter education and training program. Members of the Tecumseh fire department are on the program advisory committee.
“They mentioned at our last program advisory committee that they were getting a new fire truck,” said Zuccato.
“They didn’t know when it was going to happen, but it all just kind of came to fruition within the last couple weeks. We’re very, very appreciative.”
He said the pumper truck is a 1990 model.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Zuccato. “We have two vehicles right now. They’re in need of repair. So the timing is absolutely perfect for us.”
Fire department and town officials presented the truck to the school on Tuesday afternoon at Tecumseh town hall.
The Tecumseh Fire and Rescue Service donated the truck on the heels of its annual Fire Prevention Week. During the annual education and awareness campaign, which ran from Oct. 1-4, the fire service offered fire truck rides, firehall tours and other events. The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service kicked off its Fire Prevention Week on Tuesday at Life After Fifty, with opening ceremonies followed by truck tours and gear demonstrations. Windsor’s awareness campaign runs until Oct. 13. This year’s motto is: “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere.”
