A newly created parkette on the doorstep of the University of Windsor was dedicated Tuesday to Charles Clark Sr. and his wife Anna Clark for their dedication to the school and city.

A plaque paying tribute to the family was unveiled at the new green space dubbed Charles and Anna Clark Corner, which is located at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Wyandotte Street West. Charles Clark served as chairman of the university’s board of governors from 1971 to 1974 and chancellor from 1993 to 1996. He was awarded the UWindsor Alumni Award in 1975 in recognition of his service and loyalty to the school. “Today we show our appreciation for two individuals and their entire family who have contributed so much to the life of our city and our university,” said the university ’s interim president Douglas Kneale. “How fitting that for a university that attracts students and faculty from the four corners of the earth we should name this place a corner in honour of one of our greatest university supporters.” Clark also served on many local community and charitable organizations, including the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Windsor Rotary Club and Greater Windsor Community Foundation. He was the first chairman of the Essex County District Health Council. The university previously established the Clark Award in 1994 to recognize outstanding personal service by alumni volunteers and friends of the University of Windsor who made significant commitments in time, energy and expertise serving on the school’s committees, boards or campaigns. Anna Clark was a recipient of the Clark Award in 2011.
