It was a third straight trip to the podium for Jasmine Ly, while Alek Mauro captured his first OFSAA golf medal on Thursday.

The 17-year-old Ly, who is from Holy Names high school, captured the silver medal for a secondstraight year as the girls’ competition wrapped up at Ambassador Golf Club.

“Obviously, I wish I finished a bit better, but I’m happy with the way I’ve performed this year,” said Ly, who won the gold medal in 2016. The 16-year-old Mauro, from St. Joseph high school, tied for the best round of the day on Thursday, but had to go to a playoff to secure the silver medal at the boys’ championship in Whitby.

“I didn’t play well last year, but this year I played well,” Mauro said. “We went back to the first hole for the playoff, which was a par five. I had a good drive, used a four-iron to get to 10 feet of the hole and then hit a two-putt birdie (to end it).”

Ly was trying to close a four-shot gap on first-round leader Hailey Katona of Tilbury and was off to a quick start with two birdies on the first three holes on Thursday. “It was tough,” Ly said of the conditions. “It was windy and definitely colder than (Wednesday). “Unfortunately, I wasn’t hitting the ball too well (Thursday), so that made it harder. I missed a couple of shots, which led to some bogeys.”

Ly shot 5-over 76 for the day and finished with a two-day total of 4-over 146 to take the silver medal in the open division. Katona won the event with a 1-under par total of 141 after shooting 4-over 141. Villanova’s Kyla Charlebois shot 88 on Thursday and finished tied for 20th overall with a 167 total. Brennan’s Shannon Coffey finished 26th after shooting a final round 88 for a 168 total.

In the girls’ high school division, Sandwich’s Emily Archambeault shot 93 on Thursday and finished tied for 11th with a 183 total.

St. Anne’s Mia Marcari and Holy Names’ Vanessa Vardovini tied for 16th at 188. Lajeunesse’s Hannah Prieur tied for 21st with a 192 total and Villanova’s Riley Purdie and Katie Latella tied for 30th with a 198 total. In Whitby, Mauro’s 1-under par 71 on Thursday tied for the best round of the day and put him on the podium.

The Essex Red Raiders finished tied for 11th overall in the team competition with a total combined score of 499. Mackenzie MacIntyre shot a two-day score of 160, Tyler Hurtubise shot 167, Grant Baker checked in at 172 and Tino Balistrini finished at 177.
