Kusmierczyk wins third term
Irek Kusmierczyk will return to the table as city councillor for Windsor’s Ward 7 after seizing his third straight election victory Monday night.
Despite having popularity on his side going into the election, Kusmierczyk said his team still put everything they had into the campaign.
“We left nothing to chance,” said Kusmierczyk. “We put in all the work. We’ve taken nothing for granted this whole campaign and everything that ran up to it. You never know, you just never know.” He beat three challengers, including Barbara Holland, Albert Saba, and Angelo Marignani, who lost in his third attempt to win a council seat. Kusmierczyk, the 40-year-old director of partnerships at WEtech Alliance, was first elected in a 2013 byelection before winning re-election in 2014.
During his time on council, he helped secure $3 million in improvements to the Banwell Road and E.C. Row interchange, as well as streets lights on Banwell. Other accomplishments include 18 roads paved in Forest Glade in the last two years; paved parking, washrooms and a basketball court in Elizabeth Kishkon Park; and a new basketball court at Forest Glade Optimist Park. Kusmierczyk has advocated for investments in roads and sewers to address flooding across the city. He said during his campaign that he would continue that fight during his next term on council.
