A 24-year-old Windsor man has been charged with making death threats, following a seven-hour standoff in the 600 block of Pierre Avenue Saturday. Windsor Police Services were called to 643 Pierre Ave. around 8 a.m. for a reported domestic dispute. Police said a man wanted on outstanding warrants barricaded himself inside the house with another man.

Police believed there were weapons involved. They later recovered a replica handgun and a baseball bat. The men did not respond to officers’ repeated attempts to make contact, police said. Officers blocked off the area between Wyandotte Street East and Tuscarora Street, and cleared vehicles from the road. At about 12:30 p.m. the Windsor police tactical unit used a robot to try to make contact with the individual but there was still no response. Around 3 p.m., police breached the front door with guns drawn and removed one male from the residence. He was taken into custody, but is not being charged. The K-9 unit then located the second man in the residence. He was transported from the scene on a stretcher after being bit by a police dog, police said, and was treated at the hospital for minor injuries at around 3:30 p.m. Police have charged Joseph Bohnenschuh, 24 with making threats to cause death. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants. Police said they removed a baseball bat and replica handgun from the house.
