Innovators honoured at annual YQG Tech Awards

A dozen companies and individual­s were honoured for leading the way in technology innovation on Monday night during the second annual YQG Tech Awards. “This is a night to bring our tightknit tech community even closer together and celebrate the profession­als and companies moving tech forward in our region,” said Yvonne Pilon, president and CEO of WEtech Alliance, which organized the awards. A panel of judges and public voting on Facebook determined the winners.

Aphria Inc. was named tech company of the year. Janice Kaffer received the award for tech CEO of the year.

Dr. Tricia Carmichael is the tech researcher of the year, Renee Pare is tech profession­al of the year and Noah Campbell is the young tech profession­al of the year. Fouada Hamzeh won the award for tech teacher of the year and Sherri Koscielski was named tech mentor of the year Orangeline Farms received the award for technology adoption, Scribendi won for technology innovation and Deliverabl­e was named tech startup of the year. Paul Riser took home the WEtech Choice Award for individual­s, while Libro Credit Union received the WEtech Choice Award for an organizati­on or company. The Tech Awards were followed by the Nerd Olympics Closing Ceremonies. The three month-long Nerd Olympics pitted 16 tech companies and organizati­ons against one another in a series of challenges, including bubble soccer, go-karts, lawn bowling, foot golf, darts and board games.

The winner of the Nerd Olympics was Team Brave Control Solutions.
