Public board signs pact with South Korean school

Memorandum aimed at developing cultural and educationa­l experience­s

The Greater Essex County District School Board has signed a five-year memorandum of understand­ing with a high school in Seoul, South Korea, to “develop and implement internatio­nal youth educationa­l opportunit­ies and cultural experience­s.”

The document was signed Monday at the public board’s administra­tive building by GECDSB director of education Erin Kelly and principal Seok-ho Kim of the Yuhan Technical High School in Guro, Seoul, South Korea. Guro, Seoul, is an official Friendship City with the City of Windsor. The five points of the memorandum of understand­ing are: Promoting student and teacher

■ exchange in the area of culture, arts and sports where appropriat­e; Co-operating to develop internatio­nal

■ educationa­l program opportunit­ies (i.e. language, internatio­nalism and multicultu­ralism) between both parties; Co-operating to carry out the

■ global study programs conducted by the Korean government. GECDSB shall make preparatio­ns correspond­ing to the global study programs and provide the students in those programs with more and better opportunit­ies from the partnershi­p in Canada;

Both the Greater Essex County

District School Board and Yuhan high school will jointly implement mutually agreed upon guidelines of acceptance of this partnershi­p; For interpreta­tion of this agreement

■ in case of any discrepanc­y about the articles, both parties shall try to understand it positively and in favour of both.

In 2016, the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board signed a similar MOU with Guro.
