Bear spray used on employee in Beer Store robbery

A noxious substance believed to be bear spray was used in the robbery of a Beer Store in the Riverside area on Saturday night. Windsor police said the incident involved two suspects — one armed with a spray can, the other with a suspected handgun — at 5455 Wyandotte St. East shortly before 8 p.m.

Security cameras recorded two masked individual­s entering the store, approachin­g an employee and demand money.

The suspect with the spray can blasted its contents on the employee.

The robbers left with a quantity of cash.

Police said the employee’s injuries were minor and didn’t require medical attention.

The suspect who brandished the handgun was described as a male about five-foot-seven in height. At the time of the crime, he wore a black puffy winter jacket, blackand-white Nike shoes and grey jogging pants.

The suspect who wielded the bear spray was described as a male about six-foot with a skinny build. At the time of the crime, he wore a blue-and-white plaid coat with a brown hooded sweater underneath, black pants with white writing on the lower half of the leg and brown winter or hiking boots. Both suspects concealed their faces with ski masks. Windsor police haven’t said if this incident has any connection with the armed robbery of the Beer Store location at 8150 Tecumseh Rd. East. on Nov. 27.

The previous robbery was also perpetrate­d by two masked men, one wearing a plaid coat and the other carrying a suspected handgun. Anyone with informatio­n about either crime is encouraged to call investigat­ors at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
