Eagles QB Wentz possibly lost for season

If it’s true, as the NFL Network reported Wednesday, that Carson Wentz won’t play this week with a back injury and might be done for 2018, then it really is deja vu for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Recall that last year in midDecember, in a game against the Rams at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Wentz suffered catastrophic knee ligament tears, which finished his season. Now his back is the injury issue and it apparently will prevent him for the second consecutive year from finishing a game in L.A., for the Eagles play the Rams Sunday afternoon in Tinseltown. “Depending on the result, (and) given the time of year,” the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted, “Wentz may not play again in 2018. The team is still gathering info on his health.” Rapoport’s big news break occurred just minutes after Eagles head coach Doug Pederson hadn’t said anything of the kind.

Pederson did inform local reporters that Wentz has a back injury that would prevent him from practising on Wednesday. But he said nothing about Wentz not playing on Sunday, nor about him potentially being sidelined for the duration of the season.

“Sometimes he just gets a little sore, a little tight,” Pederson said of Wentz and his back ailment. “(We’re) just going to rest him today and evaluate him further … He’s dealt with it, and so we’re going to continue to evaluate (and) focus on today, get through today and see where he is at, at theendoftheday.”

Before Wednesday, Wentz hadn’t appeared on an Eagles injury report for any reason since mid- October.
